RIDER CONDUCT & BEHAVIOUR POLICY

1. Purpose
1.1 This Rider Conduct & Behaviour Policy (“Policy”) outlines the behavioural standards required of Participants during tours, coaching programs, skills sessions, races, events, and other activities (“Activities”) delivered by MTB Detour Pty Ltd (“the Operator”).

This Policy ensures the safety, respect, enjoyment, and welfare of all Participants, staff, Guides, minors, and members of the public.
1.3 This Policy must be read together with the Terms of Participation and all other Operator Policies.
2. Scope
2.1 This Policy applies to:
(a) all Participants, including adults and minors;
(b) Guardians authorising participation for minors;
(c) all staff, Guides, coaches, contractors, and volunteers;
(d) all Activities conducted by the Operator.
3. Definitions
3.1 “Participant” means any person taking part in an Activity.
3.2 “Guide” means authorised staff, contractors, coaches, or representatives supervising the Activity.
3.3 “Misconduct” refers to behaviour that is unsafe, disrespectful, unlawful, or in breach of Operator Policies.
4. Behavioural Standards
4.1 Participants must behave in a manner that is:
(a) safe;
(b) respectful;
(c) cooperative;
(d) responsible;
(e) considerate of others and the environment.
4.2 Participants must follow all Guide instructions immediately and without argument.
5. Prohibited Conduct
5.1 Participants must not engage in conduct including, but not limited to:
(a) aggression, abuse, or threatening behaviour;
(b) harassment, discrimination, or bullying;
(c) unsafe or reckless riding;
(d) ignoring safety instructions or trail rules;
(e) riding beyond their skill or fitness level;
(f) endangering other Participants, staff, or the public;
(g) damaging the environment or cultural sites;
(h) tampering with equipment;
(i) refusal to wear or use mandatory PPE;
(j) profanity, antisocial behaviour, or conduct affecting group cohesion;
(k) riding under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or prohibited substances.
5.2 Possession of illegal drugs, weapons, or harmful items will result in immediate removal and referral to authorities.
6. Respectful Conduct
6.1 Participants must treat others with:
(a) courtesy;
(b) patience;
(c) respect for different abilities;
(d) understanding of varying skill levels;
(e) awareness of fatigue, stress, or anxiety factors in others.
6.2 Harassment of any form — physical, verbal, sexual, racial, cultural, or digital — is strictly prohibited.
7. Group Riding Etiquette
7.1 Participants must:
(a) maintain safe spacing;
(b) yield when appropriate;
(c) communicate hazards clearly;
(d) avoid sudden stops in narrow sections;
(e) ride predictably;
(f) respect the pace set by Guides;
(g) wait at designated regroup points.
7.2 Overtaking is allowed only:
(a) when safe;
(b) when the lead rider acknowledges;
(c) on Guides’ instruction.
8. Trail Etiquette
8.1 Participants must follow accepted trail etiquette:
(a) slow down or stop for pedestrians;
(b) yield to horses where applicable;
(c) avoid skidding or trail damage;
(d) stay on designated trails;
(e) avoid shortcuts or off-track riding;
(f) comply with signage and closures.
9. Interaction with Guides and Staff
9.1 Participants must:
(a) respect the authority of Guides;
(b) raise concerns respectfully;
(c) disclose injuries or issues promptly;
(d) inform Guides of fatigue, illness, or discomfort;
(e) comply with instructions regarding pace, regrouping, or hazard avoidance.
9.2 Verbal abuse or refusal to follow direction may result in removal without refund.
10. Behaviour During Emergencies
10.1 Participants must:
(a) remain calm;
(b) follow Guide instructions;
(c) assist if requested and safe to do so;
(d) avoid interfering with emergency procedures;
(e) notify Guides immediately of hazards or injuries.
10.2 Reckless behaviour during emergencies will result in immediate removal.
11. Alcohol & Drug Policy
11.1 Participants must not:
(a) consume alcohol prior to or during an Activity;
(b) attend Activities impaired by alcohol;
(c) use, possess, or distribute illegal drugs;
(d) misuse prescription medication.
11.2 A Guide may refuse participation if impairment is suspected.
12. Conduct Standards for Minors
12.1 Minors must:
(a) follow instructions immediately;
(b) stay within sight of Guides;
(c) avoid horseplay, pushing, or dangerous movements;
(d) behave respectfully toward others.
12.2 Guardians are liable for the consequences of Minor misconduct.
13. Consequences of Misconduct
13.1 The Operator may take any of the following actions:
(a) verbal warning;
(b) temporary separation from group;
(c) removal from the Activity;
(d) exclusion from future participation;
(e) charging for damage caused;
(f) referral to police or land managers.
13.2 No refunds will be issued for Participants removed due to misconduct.
14. Reporting Behavioural Issues
14.1 Concerns or incidents must be reported to a Guide or staff member as soon as practicable.
14.2 Incidents involving minors, aggression, or harassment will be documented and managed under the Complaints, Feedback & Dispute Resolution Policy.
15. Jurisdiction
15.1 This Policy is governed by the laws of Queensland.
15.2 Additional local laws apply where Activities occur outside Queensland.
16. Acceptance Statement
“By participating in activities delivered by MTB Detour Pty Ltd (ACN 693 200 289), I confirm that I have read, understood, and agree to the Rider Conduct & Behaviour Policy and will conduct myself safely, respectfully, and responsibly.”
